SP-MAM-32 Manual 32-Cavity Arc Melting System in Glove Box for High-Throughput Alloy Synthesis up to 3000°C

The SP-MAM-32 is engineered to facilitate rapid and efficient synthesis of multiple metallic alloy samples within a controlled inert atmosphere. It is particularly suited for research involving high-entropy alloys and other advanced materials requiring precise melting conditions. By integrating a glove box with stringent oxygen and moisture control, the system ensures sample integrity during arc melting processes.

This arc melting system features two copper hearths, each with 16 cavities, allowing simultaneous melting of up to 32 specimens per batch. The manually operated arc torch can be positioned over each cavity to melt samples up to 3000°C. The water-cooled copper hearths and tungsten electrode maintain stable thermal conditions and prevent contamination. The glove box environment maintains oxygen and moisture levels below 2 ppm, supported by an automatic purification and regeneration system.

Key Features

  • Two 16-cavity water-cooled copper hearths enabling 32 simultaneous melts with 25 mm diameter cavities.
  • Manual arc torch with water-cooled 2.4 mm tungsten electrode installed via vacuum-sealed KF40 feedthrough.
  • Glove box with automatic oxygen and moisture purification system maintaining <2 ppm levels.
  • 200A DC power supply with adjustable pulse current range 5-125A; optional upgrade to 300A available.
  • Integrated 16L/min recirculating water chiller for cooling hearth and electrode.
  • Airlock chamber with vacuum capability down to 0.05 Torr for sample transfer without contamination.
  • PLC touch panel for monitoring and controlling humidity, oxygen, and pressure inside the glove box.

Typical Applications

Ideal for high-throughput synthesis of metal alloys, especially high-entropy alloys, and materials research requiring controlled atmosphere arc melting. Also applicable in battery anode material development such as layered amorphous silicon alloys.

Configuration & Operating Notes

  • Water cooling system and high purity argon gas supply are required but not included; recommended water chiller model KJ-5000.
  • Arc melting torch and water cooling plate installation can be customized inside or outside the glove box.
  • Use a two-stage pressure regulator on the argon gas cylinder to maintain pressure below 6 bars for safety.
  • Regular regeneration of the purification system is necessary to maintain low oxygen and moisture levels.
  • Oxygen sensors are consumables with an approximate one-year lifespan; replacements should be procured accordingly.
  • Corrosive gases must be avoided to prevent damage to sensors and system components.
  • During operation, avoid contact between the tungsten electrode tip and samples or copper hearth to prevent damage and ensure safety.
  • Operators must wear appropriate eye protection such as safety glasses or tinted masks during arc melting.
