MSK-AFA-L1000 350mm Wide Tape Casting Sheet Coater with 120°C Heated Vacuum Bed and Micrometer Adjustable Doctor Blade

The MSK-AFA-L1000 is engineered for laboratory-scale tape casting applications requiring precise and uniform thick film coatings. It is particularly suited for producing electrode sheets used in cylindrical battery cells, including the 21700 format. This coater accommodates a maximum coating width of 350 mm and a stroke length up to 1000 mm, enabling the fabrication of long, continuous films with consistent thickness.

Central to its design is a heatable aluminum alloy vacuum chuck that securely holds substrates flat during coating and drying. The vacuum chuck can be heated up to 120°C with a precision temperature controller maintaining ±1°C accuracy, facilitating controlled drying of coated films such as lithium-ion battery electrodes. The coater’s micrometer adjustable doctor blade applicator allows fine control of film thickness with an accuracy of ±0.01 mm, ensuring reproducible coating quality.

Key Features

  • 350 mm wide tape casting with stroke length adjustable from 10 to 1000 mm.
  • Heatable vacuum chuck platform (up to 120°C) with flatness tolerance ±10 microns.
  • Micrometer adjustable doctor blade applicator for precise film thickness control (±0.01 mm).
  • Adjustable traverse speed from 0 to 100 mm/sec for optimized coating processes.
  • Vacuum chuck features 1 mm diameter holes spaced 14.3 mm apart over an effective area of 930 mm × 300 mm.
  • Optional IR light heating cover available for enhanced drying capabilities.
  • Designed for coating battery electrodes, especially cylindrical cell formats like 21700.

Typical Applications

This coater is optimized for fabricating thick film electrodes for lithium-ion batteries, especially cylindrical cell electrodes such as 21700 formats. It is suitable for coating cathode and anode sheets with uniform thickness and controlled drying. The heated vacuum bed facilitates drying of coated films, improving film quality and adhesion.

Configuration & Operating Notes

The MSK-AFA-L1000 includes a built-in pushing bar and a micrometer adjustable applicator head. A vacuum pump is required but not included; a CE-compliant 120 L/min oilless vacuum pump is recommended. An optional IR light heating cover can be added for enhanced drying performance. Operators should consider using a fume hood during coating processes and may require additional equipment such as vacuum mixers to degas slurry and digital thickness gauges for quality control.
