FMF-10 Compact Levitation Cold Crucible Vacuum Melting Furnace with 10KW Induction Heater and 5g Max Sample Capacity

The FMF-10 is engineered for laboratory-scale melting of small metallic and alloy samples under vacuum or low-pressure environments. It is particularly suited for developing and studying advanced magnetic alloys and metallic materials requiring ultra-high purity. The system employs a magnetic vortex levitation melting technique within a specially designed water-cooled copper crucible, which is housed inside a vacuum-sealed quartz tube to prevent contamination.

Melting is achieved by a 10KW high-frequency induction heater operating at adjustable frequencies between 50 and 300 kHz. The copper crucible dimensions are 27 mm outer diameter, 10 mm inner diameter, and 12 mm depth, capable of holding up to 5 grams of metallic material. The vacuum chamber includes a quartz tube (32 mm OD x 28 mm ID x 160 mm length) and vacuum flanges with high-temperature silicone O-rings, enabling vacuum levels down to 10-5 torr with optional molecular pump. Sample loading and unloading are facilitated by an electrically controlled bottom flange.

Key Features

  • 10KW induction heater with adjustable frequency from 50 to 300 kHz for precise melting control.
  • Vacuum-sealed quartz tube chamber with vacuum flanges and electric motor-controlled bottom flange for easy sample handling.
  • Includes a two-stage mechanical vacuum pump with exhaust filter and KF25 adapter for immediate operation.
  • System operates under vacuum or low pressure below 0.02 MPa (0.2 bar), ensuring high purity and minimal contamination.
  • Separate power control and induction heating units for optimized performance and maintenance.
  • Optional recirculating water chiller and high purity argon gas supply required but not included.

Typical Applications

Ideal for research and development of high-purity magnetic alloys and metallic materials requiring contamination-free melting under vacuum or low-pressure conditions. Suitable for small sample sizes up to 5 grams in materials science, metallurgy, and advanced alloy development laboratories.

Configuration & Operating Notes

The system requires a continuous supply of high purity argon gas (>5N) with a pressure regulator set below 3 PSI to avoid damage to the vacuum chamber. Gas flow should be maintained below 200 SCCM. A recirculating water chiller is recommended if no external water cooling line is available. The furnace must never be heated with the gas release valve closed to prevent positive pressure buildup inside the chamber. The power control unit is separate from the induction heating unit for ease of maintenance. Safety precautions include continuous monitoring of internal pressure during operation to prevent irreparable damage.
