SP-MAM-32 Manual 32-Cavity Arc Melting System Integrated in Glove Box for High-Throughput Alloy Synthesis

The SP-MAM-32 is engineered to facilitate efficient high-throughput melting of metallic alloy samples within a controlled glove box environment. This system is ideal for researchers developing new high-entropy alloys and other advanced materials requiring precise atmosphere control and rapid sample processing. By integrating two 16-cavity copper hearths inside a glove box with stringent oxygen and moisture purification, the system enables simultaneous melting of up to 32 specimens, significantly reducing handling time and contamination risk.

Samples are melted using a manually operated arc torch capable of reaching temperatures up to 3000°C. The torch is mounted via a vacuum-sealed KF40 feedthrough, allowing safe operation inside the glove box. The copper hearths are water-cooled to maintain thermal stability and prevent damage during repeated melting cycles. The hearths are interchangeable and can be accessed through an airlock chamber, facilitating sample loading and unloading without compromising the glove box atmosphere.

Key Features

  • Two water-cooled copper hearths with 16 cavities each, totaling 32 melting sites (25 mm diameter per cavity).
  • Glove box atmosphere maintained below 2 ppm oxygen and moisture via integrated purification system.
  • Manual arc melting torch with 200A DC power supply and water-cooled tungsten electrode.
  • Airlock chamber with vacuum capability down to 0.05 Torr for sample transfer.
  • Integrated PLC touch panel for real-time monitoring and control of humidity and pressure.
  • Steel cover included to protect samples from cross-contamination during melting.
  • Optional configurations available for higher current power supply and larger glove box windows.

Typical Applications

The SP-MAM-32 is well-suited for high-throughput alloy development, especially in research on high-entropy alloys and novel metallic systems. It supports rapid screening of multiple compositions under inert atmosphere, minimizing contamination and oxidation. The system is also applicable for preparing layered amorphous silicon electrodes in lithium-ion battery research and other advanced material synthesis requiring controlled melting conditions.

Configuration & Operating Notes

  • Water cooling system and high purity argon gas supply are required but not included; recommended water chiller model is KJ-5000.
  • Arc melting torch and water cooling plate installation can be customized inside or outside the glove box.
  • Use a two-stage pressure regulator on the argon gas cylinder to maintain pressure below 6 bars for safety.
  • Regular regeneration of the purification system is necessary to maintain low oxygen and moisture levels.
  • The tungsten electrode tip must not contact the sample or copper hearth during operation to avoid damage.
  • Operators should wear appropriate eye protection with tinted windows during arc melting.
  • Oxygen sensors are consumables with approximately one-year lifespan; replacements should be procured as needed.
  • Corrosive gases are prohibited as they damage sensors and system components.
