MSK-AFA-200 Compact Roll-to-Roll Coater with 160mm Max Width and Six Optional Coating Heads for Film Electrode Fabrication

The MSK-AFA-200 is engineered for laboratories focused on materials research requiring precise and continuous coating of electrode films. It automates the process of coating, drying, and winding flexible substrates, enabling efficient production of coated electrode sheets up to 160 mm in width and lengths reaching 500 meters. This compact system integrates multiple functions including substrate reeling, slurry feeding, coating application, drying via a convection oven, and final winding, all within a small footprint suitable for research environments.

The coater offers versatility through six optional coating heads or combinations, allowing users to select the most appropriate method for their slurry and film requirements. The system supports coating thicknesses ranging from as thin as 1 micron (dried film) with micro-gravure coating up to 200 microns with doctor blade or slot die methods, depending on slurry viscosity and process parameters. The drying chamber uses forced convection hot air with a maximum temperature of 130°C and temperature uniformity within ±3-5°C, ensuring consistent film quality.

Key Features

Typical Applications

The MSK-AFA-200 is ideal for coating electrode films in battery research and development, thin film fabrication, and other materials science applications requiring uniform, controlled thin film deposition on flexible substrates. It supports various coating techniques suitable for slurry-based electrode materials and can be adapted for different film thickness and drying requirements.

Configuration & Operating Notes

Users can select from six coating head options or combinations to match their coating process needs. Optional accessories include a precision digital thickness gauge for film measurement, plasma cleaning add-on to enhance substrate surface energy, and various slurry feeding pumps (peristaltic, syringe, screw) for continuous or intermittent slurry delivery. Proper cleaning with acetone is recommended to prevent rusting of blades and rollers. On-site training is available within the US, and technical training at the facility can be scheduled prior to shipment.
