OTF1200XVI Six-Zone Split Tube Furnace with 1.8 Meter Heating Zone, Up to 1200°C Max Temperature

The OTF1200XVI furnace is engineered for laboratory applications requiring precise temperature control over extended lengths. It is particularly suited for processes demanding either a long uniform heating zone or a stepped thermal gradient along a 1.8 meter tube. This capability supports advanced material synthesis, gas-solid reactions, and thermal treatments under controlled atmospheres.

This model incorporates six independently controlled heating zones, each 300 mm in length, allowing flexible temperature profiling. The furnace accommodates quartz or mullite tubes with diameters from 1″ to 4″ (optional) and includes a standard 4″ OD quartz tube of 100″ length. The heating chamber is insulated with high-purity fibrous alumina to optimize energy efficiency and maintain temperature stability.

Key Features

  • Six independent PID digital temperature controllers with 30 programmable segments each for precise ramping and dwell control.
  • Maximum operating temperature of 1200°C with continuous operation up to 1100°C.
  • Heating elements made from 1300°C grade Fe-Cr-Al alloy doped with molybdenum for durability and performance.
  • Separate control box with RS485 communication port enabling PC-based remote operation within 5 meters.
  • Includes a 4″ OD x 3.62″ ID x 100″ L quartz tube and quick-clamped stainless steel vacuum flanges with gas inlet and vacuum pump ports.
  • Over-temperature protection, broken thermocouple detection, and alarm systems for safe operation.
  • Flexible tube diameter compatibility from 1″ to 4″ available as an option.

Typical Applications

The OTF1200XVI is well suited for advanced material research requiring controlled thermal gradients or uniform heating over long sample lengths. It supports processes such as chemical vapor deposition, gas-solid reactions, annealing, sintering, and vacuum or low-pressure thermal treatments. Its compatibility with various tube diameters and integrated vacuum flanges makes it ideal for experiments involving reactive or inert gases under controlled atmospheres.

Configuration & Operating Notes

The furnace includes a standard quartz tube and stainless steel vacuum flanges with gas inlet and vacuum pump ports. Optional tube diameters from 1″ to 4″ can be ordered separately. For precise vacuum control, a digital vacuum gauge and molecular pump are available as optional accessories. Water cooling via a recirculating chiller is recommended for extended operation.

Users should calibrate temperature settings to ensure accuracy inside the tube. The furnace is designed for vacuum and low-pressure operation below 0.2 bar, with gas flow rates limited to under 200 SCCM to minimize thermal shock to the tube. A two-stage pressure regulator must be installed on gas cylinders to maintain safe operating pressures below 3 PSI. Vacuum operation is safe up to 1500°C.
