OTF-1200X-HP-70-V Dual Zone Vertical High-Pressure Furnace with 1100°C Max Temperature and 70 mm Ni-Based Superalloy Tube for Hydrothermal Crystal Growth

The OTF-1200X-HP-70-V furnace is engineered specifically for hydrothermal crystal growth processes requiring high pressure and temperature conditions. Its vertical split tube design incorporates a nickel-based superalloy processing tube with a 70 mm outer diameter, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1100°C for short durations and continuous operation at 1000°C. This configuration supports precise control of the crystal growth environment under elevated pressures.

The furnace features two independently controlled heating zones, each 200 mm in length, providing a total heated zone of 400 mm with a stable constant temperature region of 175 mm ±2°C. Temperature regulation is managed by three digital PID controllers with programmable segments and over-temperature protection. Pressure is monitored by a digital transducer with an automatic release valve to maintain safe operating conditions. The system is designed for inert gases and oxygen, excluding flammable gases such as hydrogen.

Key Features

  • Maximum operating temperature of 1100°C (short term) and 1000°C continuous with controlled heating rate ≤10°C/min.
  • High-pressure capability with safety factor 3: up to 200 bar at ≤800°C, decreasing with higher temperatures.
  • Dual heating zones (200 mm each) with precise temperature stability ±1°C and PID control.
  • Processing tube made from nickel-based superalloy GH747, 70 mm OD × 35 mm ID × 526 mm length, nominal 500 ml capacity.
  • Integrated digital pressure transducer and automatic pressure release valve for safety.
  • Includes 63 mm CF flanges with high-pressure valve and fittings; copper O-rings supplied with spares available.
  • Optional PC control software and accessories such as vacuum pumps and gas flow control systems available.

Typical Applications

This furnace is ideal for hydrothermal synthesis and crystal growth experiments requiring controlled high-pressure and high-temperature environments. It is suitable for research in materials science, geology, and chemistry where precise thermal gradients and pressure conditions are critical.

Configuration & Operating Notes

The nickel-based superalloy processing tube is a consumable component and must be replaced as needed. Samples must be loaded inside a quartz or alumina crucible boat to prevent direct contact with the tube and avoid contamination or damage. Wrapping the crucible with gold or nickel foil is recommended to minimize contamination.

Safety precautions include limiting the heating temperature according to the pressure rating of the vessel material and using only inert or oxygen gases. Flammable or toxic gases require consultation with engineering experts. A two-stage pressure regulator must be installed on gas cylinders to ensure safe operation below 3 PSI.

Optional accessories include PC control software for temperature programming, heavy-duty rotary vane vacuum pumps for vacuum conditions, and gas flow control systems. A torque wrench is recommended to avoid overtightening flange bolts.
