MSK-HRP-01 Electric Hot Rolling Press for Battery Electrode Preparation with 100°C Max Temperature and Variable Speed
The MSK-HRP-01 is a compact electric hot rolling press specifically engineered for the preparation and densification of battery electrodes, particularly in lithium-ion battery research. It is designed to operate safely within inert gas environments such as argon-filled glove boxes, enabling precise control over electrode thickness and density after coating processes. This makes it ideal for enhancing the active material density of electrodes to improve battery performance.
The press features a maximum roller temperature of 100°C, suitable for short-term heating up to one hour or continuous operation at 80°C, controlled by a precision temperature controller with ±1°C accuracy. Its rolling gap is adjustable from 0 to 1.2 mm, allowing fine control of the final electrode thickness. The rollers have a diameter of 96 mm and width of 96 mm, with a surface hardness of HRC60-62, suitable for materials with hardness below 50HRC.
Key Features
- Maximum roller temperature of 100°C with controlled heating rate of 1.3°C/min and 500W heating element power.
- High torque 24V DC motor with reducing gear (1:75) and digital speed indicator displaying 0–26 mm/s roller speed.
- Adjustable rolling gap from 0 to 1.2 mm with dial gauge accuracy of 0.01 mm for precise thickness control.
- Roller dimensions: 96 mm diameter by 100 mm width, effective cylinder width 96 mm.
- Compatible with argon gas environments for glove box integration and safe operation.
- Suitable for rolling thin electrodes down to minimum thicknesses depending on material, e.g., 0.1 mm for 0.16 mm thick copper-coated electrodes.
- CE certified with optional NRTL (UL61010) or CSA certification available on request.

Typical Applications
The MSK-HRP-01 is primarily used for densifying coated battery electrodes in lithium-ion battery research to improve electrode packing density and electrochemical performance. It is also suitable for producing free-standing 2D metal nanosheets by repeated folding and calendaring of stacked metal sheets. The device is compatible with glove box environments and inert gases such as argon, supporting sensitive material handling.
Configuration & Operating Notes
- The MSK-HRP-04 roll-to-roll system can be optionally integrated for automatic film unwinding and winding after calendaring.
- Rollers must be cleaned with acetone after each use to prevent contamination and corrosion.
- Do not roll materials with hardness exceeding 50HRC to avoid damage.
- Multi-step thickness reduction is recommended, with each calendaring decrement not exceeding 0.02 mm relative to the original thickness.
- Heating above 100°C is not advised to prevent roller deformation and loss of accuracy.
- Regular lubrication of roller bearings extends service life.
- Not suitable for use in hazardous or flammable gas environments (Class I locations).
