HDS100D Hybrid Film Applicator with 100mm Doctor Blade and 50mm Slot Die Heads for Precise Tape and Slot Die Coating
The HDS100D hybrid film applicator is engineered to meet the diverse coating needs of laboratory research involving battery electrodes, perovskite solar films, and fuel cell membranes. It integrates two coating methods—tape coating using a doctor blade and slot die coating—allowing users to produce films ranging from relatively thick to ultra-thin layers with high precision.
This applicator is compatible with all brands of film coaters and is particularly suited for slurry-based coating processes. Its stainless steel construction ensures durability and chemical resistance during coating operations.
Key Features
- 100 mm wide doctor blade equipped with dual micrometers for precise film thickness adjustment from 0.01 mm to 5 mm.
- 50 mm wide slot die head attachable to the doctor blade for coating ultra-thin films between 0.005 mm and 0.02 mm thickness.
- Includes sets of shims (two each of 0.2 mm, 0.3 mm, and 0.4 mm thickness) to fine-tune coating thickness.
- PTFE tube (1/8″ OD x 2.175 mm ID) and connectors provided for integration with slurry pumps and slot die.
- PTFE buffering pad installed beneath the doctor blade to minimize friction during coating.
- Digital micrometer heads with an accuracy of ±0.001 mm for precise gap control between slot die and substrate.
- Optional slot die heads of 10 mm or 30 mm width available upon request for different coating widths.

Typical Applications
Ideal for coating battery electrode slurries, perovskite solar cell films, and fuel cell membranes where precise control of film thickness is critical. Suitable for research and development labs requiring flexible coating methods from thick tape coatings to thin slot die layers.
Configuration & Operating Notes
The slot die head is removable to allow exclusive use of the doctor blade for tape coating. Coating thickness depends on multiple factors including slurry viscosity, coating speed, and flow rate rather than solely on the gap setting. Users should optimize these parameters experimentally for best results.
Recommended to use with a coater featuring a lapped glass surface with flatness within ±2 microns for optimal coating uniformity. Syringe pumps can be ordered separately to supply slurry to the slot die head.
