MSK-AFA-200 Compact Roll-to-Roll Coater with 160mm Max Width and Six Optional Coating Heads for Film Electrode Fabrication

The MSK-AFA-200 is engineered to facilitate continuous roll-to-roll coating processes for electrode films and other thin film materials, primarily in research and development settings. It enables precise application of coating slurries onto flexible substrates with a maximum coating width of 160 mm and lengths up to 500 meters, supporting efficient production of uniform electrode sheets.

This system integrates multiple functions including substrate reeling and unreeling, slurry feeding, coating application, and drying within a compact footprint. The drying chamber uses forced convection hot air with temperature control up to 130°C, ensuring consistent film formation. The coater accommodates various coating techniques through six interchangeable heads or combinations, allowing adaptation to different slurry viscosities and coating thickness requirements.

Key Features

  • Maximum coating width of 160 mm with substrate widths up to 180 mm supported.
  • Six optional coating heads: Doctor Blade, Reverse Comma Blade, Micro-Gravure, Slot Die, and combinations thereof.
  • Coating thickness ranges from 1 µm (micro-gravure) up to 200 µm depending on method and slurry properties.
  • Coating speed adjustable from 0 to 200 mm/min, limited by drying efficiency.
  • Forced convection hot air drying chamber with temperature accuracy ±1°C and uniformity ±3-5°C.
  • Reeling/unreeling shafts with 75 mm inner diameter mechanical expanding shafts and 200 mm outer diameter rollers.
  • Optional accessories include slurry feeding pumps, digital thickness gauge, plasma cleaning, and filtration systems.

Typical Applications

The MSK-AFA-200 is ideal for coating electrode films in battery research and development, thin film fabrication for flexible electronics, and other applications requiring precise, uniform coatings on flexible substrates. Its versatility in coating methods supports a wide range of slurry viscosities and film thicknesses.

Configuration & Operating Notes

Users can select from six coating head options or combinations to tailor the coating process to specific material and thickness requirements. Optional slurry feeding pumps are available for continuous or intermittent delivery depending on the coating head used. A precision digital thickness gauge can be added for in-process film thickness measurement.

Additional options include atmosphere plasma cleaning to enhance substrate surface energy for improved adhesion, and filtration systems for slurry optimization and environmental safety. Proper cleaning with acetone is recommended to prevent rusting of blades and rollers. Technical training is available prior to shipment, with on-site training offered within the US.
