GSL1700X-SPC1 Compact Vacuum Carbon and Metal Evaporating Coater with Touch Screen Control and Rotary Sample Stage

The GSL1700X-SPC1 is engineered for laboratory applications requiring thin carbon or metallic film coatings on scanning electron microscope (SEM) samples with diameters up to 2 inches. Its compact design integrates a quartz vacuum chamber and a separate power supply unit, facilitating maintenance and operational flexibility. This system enables controlled evaporation processes essential for enhancing sample conductivity and imaging quality in electron microscopy.

The coater operates under vacuum conditions achieved via an external pump (not included), reaching pressures down to 10^-5 Torr with a turbo pump or 10^-2 Torr with a rotary vane pump. A touch screen panel provides intuitive control over vacuum levels, evaporation current, and timing parameters, allowing precise process management. The sample stage, positioned at the chamber bottom, offers adjustable height and optional rotation at 5 rpm to ensure uniform film deposition.

Key Features

  • Separate evaporation power unit with 10 VAC output and maximum 50 A current for stable evaporation control.
  • Quartz vacuum chamber measuring 6 inches outer diameter by 10 inches height for compact footprint.
  • Sample stage diameter of 50 mm with adjustable height and optional rotation function (5 rpm) for uniform coating.
  • Touch screen interface for real-time monitoring and adjustment of vacuum, current, and evaporation time.
  • Tungsten evaporation heater with manual shutter and three tungsten coils plus a 2-foot carbon fiber string for carbon evaporation source.
  • Vacuum pump port KF25 with integrated gas inlet and outlet valves for controlled atmosphere management.
  • Supports use of various evaporation materials; additional sources available upon request.

Typical Applications

Ideal for depositing thin conductive carbon or metal films on SEM samples to improve imaging quality and reduce charging effects. Suitable for research in materials science, nanotechnology, and electron microscopy sample preparation.

Configuration and Operating Notes

The system requires an external vacuum pump, which is not included. For optimal vacuum and reduced oxygen contamination, purging the chamber 2-3 times with a 5% H2 and 95% N2 gas mixture is recommended before coating. To prolong equipment life, maintain evaporation current below 40 A for extended use; 30 A is sufficient for materials with low vapor rates. Optional spare tungsten heaters and alternative evaporation sources can be provided upon request.
