OTF1500XVTQ 1500°C Atmosphere Controlled Vertical Quenching Furnace with 80mm OD Alumina Tube for Material Phase Transition Studies
The OTF1500XVTQ furnace is engineered to facilitate the rapid quenching of samples from elevated temperatures up to 1500°C, enabling detailed investigation of material phase transitions and microstructural changes. Its vertical split design allows straightforward installation and maintenance of the alumina processing tube and flanges. This furnace is particularly suited for experiments requiring controlled atmosphere conditions, including oxygen-sensitive samples, by integrating with a gas purification and circulation system.
Samples are heated within an 80 mm outer diameter alumina tube, manufactured in the USA, with a heating zone length of 440 mm and a stable temperature region of 150 mm maintained within ±1°C. The furnace employs twelve silicon carbide heating elements rated for 1500°C operation, achieving heating rates up to 10°C per minute. Temperature control is managed via a programmable controller supporting 30 segments, PID auto-tuning, and safety features such as over-temperature alarms and thermocouple failure protection.
Key Features
- Vertical split furnace design with dual-layer steel casing and air cooling to maintain surface temperature below 65°C.
- 80 mm OD alumina tube (ID 74 mm, length 1000 mm) for sample processing under controlled atmosphere or vacuum.
- Electromagnetic sample hanger combined with an electric gate valve enables precise quenching by dropping samples directly into ice water or oil baths.
- Programmable temperature controller with ±1°C accuracy and RS-485 communication port; optional PC software and Eurotherm controller upgrade available.
- Water-cooled flanges on both ends to protect O-ring seals during high-temperature operation.

Typical Applications
This furnace is ideal for research involving rapid thermal quenching to capture transient phases and microstructures in metals, ceramics, and other materials. It supports studies on phase transformations, heat treatment effects, and atmosphere-sensitive sample processing under controlled oxygen or inert environments.
Configuration & Operating Notes
The furnace includes a 10-foot heavy-duty UL-approved power cable; plug must be sourced separately. Optional accessories include a hermetic quenching tank for air-sensitive materials, vacuum pump for low-pressure operation, and advanced temperature controllers with PC interface and remote control capabilities. Users must calibrate temperature before use and ensure gas pressure is regulated below 3 PSI with a two-stage regulator for safe operation. Graphite crucibles are not recommended for use inside the alumina tube. The gas flow rate should be limited to under 200 ml/min to maintain safe and stable atmosphere conditions.
