GSL-1700X-60-VTQ High-Temperature Quenching Tube Furnace with Ø60ר54 mm Alumina Tube and Electromagnetic Sample Release

The GSL-1700X-60-VTQ is engineered for advanced materials research requiring precise high-temperature treatment and rapid quenching under controlled atmospheres. It is ideal for investigating phase transformations and microstructural evolution at temperatures up to 1700°C. The furnace accommodates samples up to 50 mm in diameter and 65 mm in length within a high-purity alumina tube, enabling vacuum and inert gas processing.

This system integrates a Ø60 mm outer diameter and Ø54 mm inner diameter alumina tube with a 135 mm effective heating zone. The tube is sealed with vacuum and gas valves, allowing pressures down to 50 mTorr. A built-in quenching tank at the furnace base facilitates immediate sample cooling. The furnace includes an automatic electromagnetic hanger that releases the sample into the quenching liquid upon command, ensuring rapid and controlled quenching.

Key Features

  • Maximum operating temperature of 1700°C with continuous operation between 800°C and 1600°C.
  • Ø60ר54 mm high purity alumina tube, 850 mm length, with fibrous ceramic blocks to minimize heat loss.
  • Heating zone length of 130 mm with ±5°C temperature uniformity over 60 mm.
  • Four U-shaped 1800°C grade MoSi2 heating elements for stable and efficient heating.
  • Automatic electromagnetic sample release system for rapid quenching into a liquid tank under vacuum or inert atmosphere.
  • Vacuum and gas sealing flange with valves and vacuum gauge included for controlled atmosphere processing.
  • Standard PID temperature controller with auto-tune, 30 programmable segments, and safety alarms; optional Eurotherm 3008 controller available.

Typical Applications

This furnace is suited for high-temperature phase studies, microstructure evolution research, and heat treatment of materials under vacuum or inert atmospheres. It is particularly useful for rapid quenching experiments to capture transient phases or microstructures in metals, ceramics, and composites.

Configuration & Operating Notes

The furnace includes a double-layer steel casing with high purity 1800°C fibrous alumina insulation. The alumina tube is sealed with vacuum and gas valves and includes a vacuum gauge. Two fibrous ceramic tube blocks are supplied to reduce heat radiation inside the tube and must be fully inserted before heating.

The electromagnetic sample release system supports samples up to 500 g and operates by cutting power to drop the sample into the quenching liquid tank. For quenching under vacuum, use ice water or cooled oil as the quenching medium. The bottom flange connects to a 4″ gate valve and quenching container (400×400×200 mm).

A two-stage pressure regulator must be installed on gas cylinders to limit pressure below 3 PSI. Gas flow rates should not exceed 200 SCCM. The MoSi2 heating elements require careful use to avoid prolonged exposure between 400°C and 700°C in oxidizing atmospheres to prevent damage.
